In ancient Greece there were diviners, augers, soothsayers, fortune tellers, and all manner of people who made their living by interpreting the "will of the gods." When an obvious mistake was made, it was said that the interpreter made his error in interpretation because of something called the "Thorn of the Flesh." Simply put, it was a way of saying that the interpreter, being merely mortal and bound in flesh, could sometimes be excused in his/her interpretation of the will of the gods due to a clash of intellect. It was well known that actual contact with the gods could overwhelm a mortal's mind (later called "tetched").
The point I'm getting around to is that it's obvious that L. Ron Hubbard was gifted with experiencing the spiritual realm. It is also obvious to someone who's actually been there too, that Hubbard was smitten by the Thorn of the Flesh. His wonderfully creative mind took flight with his explanations of All.
